To return to the book, Russell, with his usually acute mind, tackles this trouble, among others, offering friendly advice on how to avoid it and to maintain a mental balance. Christopher Donaghue If you want a thoughtful answer, don't give the type of question that one would expect to find in school. Russell gives a very cautarez path to the acquirement of happiness. I had my doubts: I loved the preface which directs to what kind of people and what kind of problems the book is going to address also mentioned throughout the book to avoid digression for the benefit of the reader. Will this ever be useful? I highly recommend this book; it is a great over-haul for both men and women.
May 20, Michael P. Russell was very right to title this quintessential self-help book with the word "conquest", since happiness is hardly a thing that emanates from the heavens down to your precious soul - unfortunately, the opposite view has held sway for a couple thousand years. Modulo the elements that haven't dated well however, there was sufficient that has resonance for our times.
Let me show you some interesting quotes from this book published by Routledge I think the first part where Russell talks about the causes of unhappiness contains some really good stuff. According to Russell, the greatest pleasures in life are afforded by -- in order -- parenthood, family life, work which is pro-social and which one finds interesting, a general appreciation of beauty and goodness in the world around us, and hobbies which are non-destructive and practiced in moderation.
He advises a quiet life satisfying to instinct.
Russell speaks of women in ways that would probably get him tarred and feathered now; though, to be fair, at the time he was considered extremely progressive. The Sense of Sin: This has been exacerbated by social media, but is, I think, something we all must deal with, especially in a capitalistic society where, ostensibly at least, your social position is determined by your own merit.

It would probaly bertraand better suited in to a blog than a book. This problem has become even more pronounced since this book was written, perhaps due to increased corporate funding of post secondary educational systems.

And it isn't worth the effort. Quotes from The Conquest of H A genuine book, calling it a self-help book wouldn't do it justice. The book is divided into two parts, Causes of Unhappiness and Causes of HappinessI loved both rissell their own ways but the first part more.
